Dog park on ADIF land

Residents of Benalúa, the southern approach and Ensanche-Diputación lack this kind of facility. The nearest parks are too far away for regular use. The recent bylaw on animal ownership, welfare and protection sets out detailed requirements and rules for dog exercise areas, yet leaves their distribution across the city unclear.

We chose the proposed site after careful consideration. It is away from homes to avoid complaints from nearby residents. With proper maintenance and strictly enforced opening hours, we would expect it to work well.

A large dog park near the city centre, as proposed, would give visitors another reason to come to Alicante. People travelling with pets have more options than ever. A distinctive park would show Alicante as a modern city that cares about dogs and the people who love them, and present the city in a positive light.

A dog park is also a place to meet and build relationships. It could boost the local economy, as people using the park may also spend money in nearby cafés, restaurants and other businesses.

At the request of the Socialist municipal group, an institutional declaration was presented on 27 May 2021 asking ADIF to transfer the land opposite the flour mills on Avenida de Elche. It proposed a large dog park to give local residents a facility they need for their pets’ health. The estimated number of dogs was about 6,700. The declaration was approved.

We now need ADIF to transfer the land to the City of Alicante so that it can provide several amenities, including the dog park this part of the city needs.
