A wait of more than half a century
Salamanca had to wait three decades for ADIF to dismantle disused tracks. In Alicante we have waited more than five decades, over half a century, to reclaim ADIF’s abandoned land beside Casa Mediterráneo and Parque del Mar. How can Alicante carry so little weight in Madrid? We are Spain’s fourth-ranking province by population and by number of representatives in Congress. What good are all those representatives in Madrid if they do nothing for the province that elected them or its capital? We Alicantinos probably bear much of the blame ourselves, along with our past councillors. Until now we have made it too easy by failing to press our case hard enough in Madrid. We have already sat down with the Transport Ministry in Madrid once and will go back as often as it takes.
