A march in the rain
More than 200 residents walked in the rain from San Gabriel to Casa Mediterráneo, demanding the removal of disused tracks, clearance of ADIF’s land and safe temporary access to Parque del Mar.
On 7 May we took to the streets again to demand a lasting answer to Parque del Mar’s isolation and the neglect of the railway land at Alicante’s southern gateway.
The march brought renewed attention to a demand nearby neighbourhoods have made for years. The park is there, but many residents struggle to use it because of the railway barrier, the lack of proper crossings and the deterioration of an area that should be part of the city.
Banners along the march called for proper access, cleaning and decisive action on the southern gateway. The umbrellas and signs showed how determined residents are. Rain and the passing years have done nothing to stop the neighbourhood demanding a solution.
Our demands
- Remove the disused tracks next to Parque del Mar and Casa Mediterráneo.
- Clean up and secure ADIF’s land.
- Provide safe, suitable temporary access while the permanent solution is arranged.
- Agree on plans that prioritise the public interest and connect the park with the neighbourhoods.
